Last Sunday, we popped into the newly opened gastropub Allswell at Waterside Place—and what an inspired addition it is. Right off the bat, the interior captivated us. It’s done to a much higher creative level than we typically see in Lakewood Ranch: thoughtful finishes and design touches that elevated the entire vibe, setting a fun and welcoming tone from the moment you walk in.
Allswell strikes just the right balance—approachable yet sophisticated. With its “old‑new‑year bar” charm, it’s one of those places where dinner is optional. Instead, it’s perfect for popping in for refreshing cocktails, a lively gathering, or simply a well‑crafted drink with friends.
Elevated Bar Food with Flair
The owners—married duo Darren Shore and Tory Delaney, who also operate New York City’s Malt House—have brought their chef-driven, elevated bar-food expertise to all of Waterside Place. We spotted all the right touches: roasted bone marrow and wild mushroom toast among starters, alongside classics like chicken wings, onion rings, and Scotch egg.
Scotch Egg Perfection
As self‑proclaimed Scotch egg connoisseurs, our expectations were high—and they delivered. The Scotch egg featured rich, flavorsome Berkshire pork sausage, a perfectly soft egg, and a crisp breadcrumb shell that balanced everything beautifully. Quite possibly one of the best we’ve had—definitely a standout.
Tender Pork Tenderloin with Cherry Butter Sauce
I ordered the pork tenderloins, which arrived tender and impeccably plated. They rested on a velvety bed of pommes purée and were elevated by a “drunken cherry butter sauce”—a delightful, slightly sweet and boozy flourish that made the dish truly memorable. Simply absolutely delicious.
Drinks, Atmosphere, and Location
Allswell offers specialty cocktails, craft beer, and a full liquor bar, easily enjoyed on their spacious patio or in their well‑air‑conditioned indoor dining area. Open daily from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., with extended weekend hours and brunch coming soon, it’s already earning its place as a local favorite.

Allswell is a genuine gem for the Waterside dining scene. With its elevated yet approachable menu, creative and stylish interior, and friendly, inviting atmosphere—it’s a true standout.
